CINABRE TAKES FLIGHT
Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled for release on May 25 and premieres today at the Cannes Film Festival. At Cinabre, we propelled ourselves into Mach 2 mode to release a tie that pays homage to this cult 80s film. Big bikes, beach volleyball, and Ray-Ban Aviators – it’s all there.
A TRIBUTE TIE
According to the US military, the number of people wanting to join the US Air Force increased by 500% when the first film was released. So, well before yoga in le Perche was the sought after source of happiness, the 80s offered another way: "You're not going to be happy unless you're going Mach 2 with your hair on fire". Even if you’re not an aspiring pilot, you’re most likely familiar with some of the film’s now-iconic cinematic moments.
We gave pride of place to one of the most stunning action scenes ever witnessed, when Maverick's "Tomcat" squared off against a Soviet MiG-28.
You’ll also see the students of TOP GUN, the American Naval Fighter Weapons School, kitted out in their pristine “Dress Whites” with their classic Ray-Ban Aviators (Large model Aviator RB3025), which were initially created for the US military in 1937 to protect pilots’ eyes at high altitudes. And of course, how could we forget the beach volleyball game with muscled and glistening torsos on display!
At the bottom of the tie, just before the point, we embroidered Lt. Pete Mitchell, aka "Maverick" (played by Tom Cruise), racing his Kawasaki GPZ900R. The biggest fans will undoubtedly recognize one last detail of the tie - the alternating red and white stripes that adorned his pilot helmet.
The film celebrates the US Navy, but the tie is very French, made as usual in our Loir-et-Cher atelier.

The Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, will be released on May 25 in France and May 27 in the United States. An opportunity to accessorize with this tie at the movie theater.
